  • Tanto para niñas como para niños, 8,5 cm (3,35 pulgadas) a cada lado de este valor calculado (estatura objetivo) representa el rango probable para su estatura prevista en la adultez (+/- 2 desviaciones estándar con respecto a la estatura objetivo).
  • Esta predicción de la estatura se basa en la estatura media de los padres ajustada de acuerdo al sexo y en los métodos siguientes:
    • Para niñas: restar 13 cm (5,12 pulgadas) de la estatura del padre y promediar con la estatura de la madre.
    • Para niños: sumar 13 cm (5,12 pulgadas) a la estatura de la madre y promediar con la estatura del padre.
    • 13 cm (5,12 pulgadas) es la diferencia promedio en la estatura entre mujeres y hombres.
  • Para calcular la puntuación Z para niñas L = 1,107132561; M = 163,3354491; S = 0,039637105; para niños, L = 1,16863827; M = 176,8414914; S = 0,04036818.
  • En los extremos (percentil >97.º o percentil <3.º), las diferencias pequeñas en los percentiles representan diferencias clínicamente importantes. En estos extremos, el puntaje Z es un reflejo más preciso de cuán lejos se desvía la medición de la media y es una herramienta útil para hacer un seguimiento de los cambios.
  • Los puntajes Z se pueden usar para hacer una búsqueda de la tabla para el percentil correspondiente en los percentiles de la tabla normal para la tabla de puntaje Z (más abajo). Los números en el lado izquierdo (eje Y) de la tabla representan el primer número y el primer número decimal del puntaje Z, mientras que los números en la parte superior (eje X) de la tabla representan el segundo decimal del puntaje Z.
